WELCOME TO MY STUDIO

Hi! I'm Nicole, an artist, ceramicist and visual arts teacher based out of Sydney, Australia. I work from my sunny home studio where I hand build and throw on my 30-year-old pottery wheel I've had since I was a student.

In my studio, I create small-batch, one-of-a-kind, functional and decorative forms. I'm not a production potter, as I prefer to create from a place of where my passion and interests leads me at any particular time. I balance my pottery making with part time teaching and have found this my happy life balance. I hope you enjoy browsing and find joy in pieces created from the heart.

I love the precious little handfuls of beads that have taken hours of painstaking work to form, glaze and lustre. Each one is like a tiny little artwork in its own right. I haven’t decided how I’m going to arrange these into something wearable yet but I’m excited thinking about it. 🌈 .

Little process reel of adding the 2 bowls to the thrown tray. All three pieces are thrown on the wheel and then there is a bit of work in carving, adjusting and attaching. I had a little platform ready to attach as well but the whole form did not look balanced with the 3 attachments so I decided to stick to the 2 different sized bowls. I’ll make a sweet little spoon to go with it and an incense stone.

It’s hot enough to enjoy a swim in the pool but too hot to go out for a dog walk. Apart from making a few ceramic items, well half made at that, I’ve had such a lazy day. I’m currently staring down a pile of washing with Pluto snuggled on my lap. At some stage I have to move. 😆
The tray shown was made a year ago and I’m currently aiming for something like that. It just needs all parts to be assembled when at right stage of leather hard. So basically, I’m waiting for clay to dry. That’s my excuse anyway. .

Couldn’t help but tack on some deliciously juicy mushrooms that inspire the work I do. These are not recent mushroom pictures but they are ones I have previously found and are hanging out with thousands on my camera roll. It’s hard in a daylight market setting to show the moodiness and beauty of the lanterns. They tend to get looked over. So I’m hoping I can showcase them better here. I think they are beautiful objects in the daylight with their magical glazes but it’s in the low light that they really come to their own. I’m not fond of making beads but I do like making the pendants and they always look better with some fancy beads. When I’m too bothered to get all dirty I occasionally come out and create random beads that I might use one day. Those random beads have come in very useful lately. So I suppose I continue to make random beads in the future. Only very small amounts though! 😜
